If you spend any amount of time with Taiwanese people in Taiwan, you'll discover that one big point of pride here is how convenient everything in Taiwan is. I think that's because everything is so close in distance. I once heard a European talking about the US, and they said, "In the US, 100 years is very long but 100 miles is very short." Well, in Taiwan, 100 years is also pretty long because Taiwan's modern history is about the same length as the US's. But as for distance, 100 kilometers is very long too, because all distances are short here! To travel from Taichung in central Taiwan to Taipei in northern, it takes less than 1 hour by high speed rail, and a little less than 2 hours by car. To someone from a big-sized country like the US, that sounds very close and easy to get to. But in Taiwan, Taichung and Taipei might as well be different countries for how apart they are! That's why everything here is so convenient. Everyday food, clothes and entertainment are all easy to get to by many forms of transportation. And a 1 or 2-week trip can allow you to see all the diverse environments of Taiwan's main island (of course taking a longer trip would mean getting to see everything in more detail!). Taiwan has amazing different environmental landscapes: a beautiful eastern mountain coastline that butts up against the Pacific Ocean, misty evergreen mountain forests and tea plantations in the central mountain range, and various fruit orchards and farms with fruit varieties that change by the county you're traveling in (for example, strawberries in Miaoli, custard apples in Taidong, pomelos in Tainan among many others). From waterfalls and volcanoes to hot springs and marble cliffs, from modern cosmopolitan cities to traditional old towns, temples of every shape and size, and easy access to stunning natural beauty wherever you go, Taiwan is a great place to spend a short (or long!) time traveling by scooter, bike, train, car, or even walking. 如果你在台灣跟台灣人度過大部分的時間的話，你就會發現這裡的一個大驕傲的點是在台灣甚麼都很方便．那應該是因為在這裡大部分的距離都不遠．我曾經聽過一個歐洲人在談論美國，他說：「在美國，一百年算很長但一百英里算很短」．那麼，我想，在台灣一百年也算蠻長的因為台灣的現代歷史跟美國的歷史是差不多一樣長．但至於距離的部分，一百公里也算很長，因為這裡的距離都很短！如果要從中部的台中旅行到北部的台北，乘坐高鐵不到一小時，而開車則不到兩個小時．對於像美國這樣的大型國家的人來說，這距離聽起來是很近的，而且很容易到達的．但在台灣，因為距離感覺比較遠，所以台中市和台北市簡直就是兩個不同國家了！這也就是為甚麼這裡感覺甚麼都很方便．日常生活的食物、衣服和娛樂都可以通過多種交通工具輕鬆到達．而且一或兩周的旅行行程可以讓你看到台灣主島的所有不同環境（當然的，更長的行程就可以讓你更仔細的了解台灣各地的特色！）．台灣擁有令人驚嘆的不同環境景觀例如：美麗的東部山脈岸線緊靠太平洋、中央山脈霧濛濛的常綠山林和茶園、還有各種果園和農場,你去哪個縣市旅行就可以看到不同水果品種（例如苗栗的草莓、台東的釋迦、台南的柚子等）．從瀑布到火山島溫泉到大理石峭壁，從現代的國際大都市到傳統的古鎮，各種形狀和大小的寺廟，無論你身在何處都可以輕鬆享受迷人景色．台灣是一個短暫（也可以是漫長囉！）消磨時光的好地方！它剛剛好的大小就適合各種旅行方式：騎機車、騎腳踏車、坐火車、開汽車甚至連走路都可以旅行．連我自己都迫不及期待下次的環島旅行！（記得看網頁最下面的地方就可以找到歌曲的和絃囉！）
